Our coaches
James Petersen
James is the Head Coach and Founder of JP Elite. He was the 2020 USA Triathlon Elite Development Coach of the Year. He is a USA Triathlon ITU Level II Certified coach and has extensive experience in developing and coaching elite triathletes. In his Elite Squad he works with both ITU and Ironman disciplined athletes. His Elite Squad offers professional and development athletes a full-time Daily performance Environment, built to provide a high-performance and high-expectation training environment to lead athletes to international success.
Amy Maxwell
Amy Maxwell is the head coach of the United States Military Academy (Army) triathlon team, as well as The Roots Racing Triathlon Team. In 2019, she coached the USAT Collegiate National Champion in the Female Draft-Legal race. In her time with the Army team she has led them to 8 Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference team championships, and coached 2 overall individual champions. In 2020, Amy helped three of her athletes earn their elite licenses.
Vanessa Petersen
Vanessa Wegner has coached for JP Elite since early 2017. Vanessa's admiration for individual sports began with Track & Field, where she competed as a varsity athlete in the 400 for eight years. While at Bentley University, Vanessa joined the school's triathlon team, hoping to find a way to stay competitive after her track career ended. In the years since then, Vanessa has come to love the endurance lifestyle and became a triathlon coach so that she could share her passion and knowledge with others.
